BINGHAMTON GEOMETRY/TOPOLOGY SEMINAR
TWO SEMINARS THIS WEEK. NOTE UNUSUAL TIME ON TUESDAY.
1) Date: Tuesday April 26, 2005,
Time: 4:25 PM.
Speaker: James Davis (Indiana University)
Title: Isomorphism Conjecture for Crystallographic Groups
Place: Library North 2205 preceded by coffee/tea in the Anderson
Reading Room.

2) Date: Thursday April 28, 2005,
Speaker: Jean-Francois Lafont (Binghamton)
Title: Simplicial norm of non-positively curved locally symmetric spaces.
Place: Library North 2205 followed by coffee/tea in the Anderson
Reading Room.
Abstract: We will show that the simplicial norms of compact,
non-positively curved, locally symmetric spaces are always greater
than 0. This answers a 1982 conjecture of Gromov. Various algebraic,
geometric, and topological consequences will be discussed. This
result is joint work with Ben Schmidt.
