                   BINGHAMTON GEOMETRY/TOPOLOGY SEMINAR

   Date: Thursday April 15, 2010

   Time: 2.50 pm

Place: Library North 2205 followed by coffee/tea in the Anderson
          Reading Room.

   Speaker: Lucas Sabalka (Binghamton University)

Title: On the geometry of Out(Fn)

Abstract: Many aspects of the group Out(Fn) are known, including
topological, (co)homological, and dynamical properties of the
group. However, the geometry of Out(Fn) remains relatively unknown. In
this talk on research in progress (joint with Dima Savchuk), we'll
discuss some properties of the geometry of a space on which Out(Fn)
acts. This space, the free splitting graph, is supposed to be a
candidate for an analogue for Out(Fn) of the curve complex from the
   mapping class group world.
