[Binghamton Geometry Topology Seminar] GT Seminar: Sahana Balasubramanya

Hi everyone,

This week we are pleased to have Sahana Balasubramanya (SUNY
Buffalo) speaking about solvable groups acting on hyperbolic spaces, title
and abstract below. This will be an *in-person talk*, Thursday at 2:50 pm
in WH 100E.

We will also take the speaker to lunch at noon, and to dinner after the
talk. If you would like to join us for lunch, meet us today Thursday at 12

*Title:* Actions of solvable groups on hyperbolic spaces
*Abstract:* (joint work with A.Rasmussen and C.Abbott) Recent papers of
Balasubramanya and Abbott-Rasmussen have classified the hyperbolic actions
of several families of classically studied solvable groups. A key tool for
these investigations is the machinery of confining subsets of
Caprace-Cornulier-Monod-Tessera. This machinery applies in particular to
solvable groups with virtually cyclic abelianizations.
