Speaker: Hee Jung Kim
Title: Symplectic surfaces with non-simply connected complement

Abstract: In this talk, we construct, for any group G satisfying some
simple conditions, a simply-connected symplectic 4-manifold containing a
symplectic surfaces whose complement has fundamental group G. These
surfaces can be modified by a variation of the Fintushel-Stern rim
surgery, called "twist-rim surgery" to produce infinitely many smoothly
inequivalent surfaces that are equivalent up to smooth s-cobordism.
