Speaker:  Hee Jung Kim<br>Title: Symplectic surfaces with non-simply connected complement<br>

Abstract: In this talk, we construct, for any group G satisfying some<br>
simple conditions, a simply-connected symplectic 4-manifold containing a<br>
symplectic surfaces whose complement has fundamental group G. These<br>
surfaces can be modified by a variation of the Fintushel-Stern rim<br>
surgery, called &quot;twist-rim surgery&quot; to produce infinitely many smoothly<br>
inequivalent surfaces that are equivalent up to smooth s-cobordism.</div>
