BINGHAMTON GEOMETRY/TOPOLOGY SEMINAR

*Date:* Thursday, December 5th, 2013

*Time:* 2:50-3:50pm
*Place:* Library North 2205 followed by coffee/tea in the Anderson
Reading Room.

*Speaker: ** *Jean-Francois Lafont (Ohio State University)
*Title: * Rigidity and the length spectrum

*Abstract:* I will give an overview of some recent results on the length
spectrum for negatively curved spaces. I will start with some questions
related to the existence of arithmetic progression in the length spectrum
(joint work with Ben McReynolds). Time permitting, I will also mention
some work on marked length spectrum rigidity for 1-dimensional geodesic
spaces, as well as for certain Fuchsian buildings (joint work with Dave
Constantine).
