Hi everyone,

This week we are pleased to have Patrick Naylor (Princeton) speaking about
Gluck twists, title and abstract below. As usual, the talk will be on
Thursday at 2:50pm in WH 100E.

The speaker will be delivering the talk remotely, and we'll project it in
WH 100E. In case you can't make it and would like to join remotely, you can
join at the link:

https://binghamton.zoom.us/j/94800072611

We'll meet again for "seminar lunch" outside WH100E at 12pm.

Best,
Cary

Title: Doubles of Gluck twists
Abstract: The Gluck twist of an embedded 2-sphere in the 4-sphere is a
4-manifold that is homeomorphic, but not obviously diffeomorphic to the
4-sphere. Despite considerable study, these homotopy spheres have resisted
standardization except in special cases. In this talk, I will discuss some
conditions that imply the double of a Gluck twist is standard, i.e., is
diffeomorphic to the 4-sphere. This is based on joint work with Dave Gabai
and Hannah Schwartz.
